Proper way to jump rope
We've shared how jump rope gives you the benefits of running with the impact of walking. To keep this impact minimal, here are few tips for jumping properly when getting started:
- Stance:
- set your feet a little closer together than shoulder width apart
- stand up straight, don't bend at the waist
- keep your elbows in at your sides
- thumbs will point out to the sides so that the palm sides of your hands face forward
- hands should be away from the body, approximately 3-12 inches, and feel comfortable
- Jump technique:
- wrists will move in a very small, circular motion with elbows staying at your side
- keep knees slightly bent, do not jump straight-legged
- land and push off on the balls of your feet, avoid flat-footed jumping
- Rope technique:
- Keep the rope wide enough to jump, but not too wide: from the legs, wrists should come up between 30 and 45 degrees
- Turn an even, full loop
